This easy 2 mile out-and-back hike is a must for all those first visiting the park. The Great Stone Door and the cliffs are not to be missed! Also be sure to check out the 400-foot stair-stepped spur trail, directly behind the Stone Door Ranger Station, that leads down to Laurel Falls!

0.0 The trail begins beside the Stone Door Ranger Station.
0.2 Laurel Gulf Overlook, a great view of Laurel Creek gorge with the Stone Door cliffs to the far right.
0.5 A stream which usually has flow.
0.6 An unusual misshapen Virginia Pine tree to the right.
0.9 The trail arrives at the Great Stone Door, with several breathtaking overlooks of the Big Creek Gulf. In the distance, to the left, you can see the confulence of Big Creek Gulf and Collins Gulf with, in the far distance, Savage Creek Gulf. Almost all you can see is protected within the boundaries of South Cumberland State Park.
After enjoying the views from the overlooks, TURN AROUND AND RETURN THE WAY YOU CAME IN.
