Routinely ranked as one of the nation’s top hiking trails by Backpacker magazine, this 12-mile trail connects the Fiery Gizzard South and Fiery Gizzard North trailheads. There are campgrounds in the middle and at each end of the trail.

The tallest falls in the Park, the 60-foot Foster Falls can be viewed from a handicapped-accessible viewing platform just 1/4 mile from the Foster Falls parking area. For a better look, take the trail past the viewing platform and descend into the gorge at the base of the falls, where there is a popular popular swimming hole.

Located at the Fiery Gizzard South Trailhead, this is the only state park campground in this area that is open to vehicles, with 25 sites for tents or small trailers.

Little Cove Campground

This campground is near the mid-point of the Fiery Gizzard Trail, and a great place to spend the night if you're hiking the Gizz during shorter fall or winter days.

Camping

Camping is by registration only. See further regulations and a checklist to have a safe and enjoyable experience.

Climbing

IMPORTANT: All rock climbing requires advance online registration. Never attempt climbing without proper shoes, harnesses, ropes and protective gear. Climbing is a dangerous activity and should not be attempted by novices.

Day Hikes

Be prepared for your hike! Know when the sun will set, and make sure you bring along these essentials...

Overlooks

Many overlooks do not have protective barriers. Keep a close eye on children and be careful!

Swimming

Many of our swimming areas are natural “plunge pools” at the base of waterfalls with varying depths and large rocks just beneath the surface.  NEVER jump off falls or elevated rocks into plunge pools. Exposed rocks appearing wet and “black” are extremely slick with algae. Avoid them!

Waterfalls

Be careful climbing near waterfalls as rocks can be slippery! NEVER jump off falls or elevated rocks into plunge pools. Exposed rocks appearing wet and “black” are extremely slick with algae. Avoid them!  Flows vary by season, with spring and fall typically having the heaviest.

Getting There

The entrance to Foster Falls is about 7.5 miles south of Tracy City on US 41, on your right, marked with a large brown park sign.
